Teeing off for the community
Seventeen teams made up of 68 golfers took part in the Jim Langseth
Memorial Golf Tournament to help raise funds for the
Rolla Community Endowment Fund (RCEF). The nine-hole event featured several
games, including a hole-in-one contest for a
car sponsored by Munro Motor Company and Starion Bank. In addtion, 23 Rolla
buSinesses stepped up to sponsor a hole and
a majority of the winners donated their cash prizes back to the RCEF, which
awards grants every year to several community or-
ganizations and causes. Every dollar raised at last week’s tournament
will be matched by the Larson family, owners of the Star-
ion Bank chain, who donated up to $100,000 to match all donations made
until June of 2022. Above left: Marilyn Lipp watches
her tee shot soar to the middle of the fairway on hole No. 8 at Rolla Golf
Course during the tournament. Above right: Blaine
Moberg tried to pitch this shot around 60 yards into a baby pool in an
attempt to double his money in one of the event’sside

Youth required to
North Dakota state law requires
youth ages 12—15 who want to op-
crate a b‘pat or personal watercraft
by themselves with at least a 10
h0rsepoWer motor must pass the
state’s boating basics course.
However, the North Dakota
Game and Fish Department rec-
ommends all boaters take a boater
education course. In fact, some in-
surance companies give adult boat
owners who pass the course a dis-
' COunt on boat insurance.
The course is available for
home-study from the Game and
Fish Department’s Bismarck of—
fice. Two commercial providers
also offer the course online, and
links tolthose sites are found on
the department’s website at
, pass boating course }
gf.nd.gov.
While the home—study course is
free, students are charged a fee'to
take it online. The online provider
charges for the-course, not the
Game and Fish Department. The
fee remains with the online
provider. 7
Upon completion of the online
test, and providing a credit card
number, students will be able to
print a temporary certification
card, and within 30 days a perma-
nent card will be mailed.
The course_ covers legal re-
quirements, navigation rules, get-
ting underway, accidents and
special topics such as weather, '
rules of the road, laws, life saving
and first aid‘.
