October 25, 2010 The Star Page 3 Sex offenders move into Rolette County The Rolette County Sheriff re- ports that'a registered sex offender has moved into Rolette County. Charles Can'ington Jr., age 42, is cur- rently living in the Belcourt area. He is a Native American male, with black hair and brown eyes. Caning- ton was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. In accordance with ND State Law, he must now register as a sexual offender. The risk level for this individual has been determined as HIGH, as assessed by the ND At- torney General's Office. This infor- mation is released pursuant to ND Century Code 12.1-32-15, which re- quires law enforcement agencies to disclose to the public relevant and necessary registration information when a sexual offender registered under this section is a public risk and disclosure of the registration is nec- essary for public protection. Carrington is not wanted by local law enforcement at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court. This notification is not in- tended to increase fear in the com- munity. It is the belief of the Rolette County Sheriff's Office that an in- formed public is a safer public. The Rolette County Sheriff re- ports that a registered sex offender has moved into Rolette County. Ken- neth Thietoe, age 18, is currently liv- ing in the Dunseith area. He is a Native American male, with brown hair and brown eyes. Thiefoe was convicted of four counts of Gross Sexual Imposition. In accordance with ND State Law, he must now register as a sex- ual offender. The risk level for this individual has been determined as MODERATE, as assessed by the ND Attorney General's Office. This in- formation is released pursuant to ND Century Code 12.1-32-15, which re- quires law enforcement agencies to disclose to the public relevant and necessary registration information when a sexual offender registered under this section is a public risk and disclosure of the registration is nec- essary for public protection. This in- formation is shared with the public for safety reasons only. Law en- forcement will not tolerate the abuse of this information, and the informa- tion is not to be used to threaten, ha- rass, assault or :intimidate the registered offender. The personal safety of local residents and their families is important to the members of the Rolette County Sheriff's De- partment and they are asking that you report any suspicious or crimi- nal activity. The safety of the community de- pends on the people's willingness to get inw)lved. Anyone with questions or concerns may contact the Rolette County Sheriff's Office for more in- formation. Dunseith man pleads guilty to assault United States Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on Octo- ber 18, 2010, Clint Beston, 20, of Dunseith, North Dakota. pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland to a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Between March 14 and 15, 2009, Beston and co-defendant Great Walker attacked and assaulted a man who was walking in the St. Mary's housing area near Dunseith, North Dakota. Following the assault, the victim was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a fractured leg. The charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury carries a statu- tory maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain Agency. Sentencing for Beston has been scheduled for January 3, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., in United States District Court in Minot. North Dakota. Sentencing for Great Walker has been scheduled for November 29, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., in United States District Court in Minot, North Dakota.
